Debora Juarez Leads Tribal Practice Group - On January 1st, Seattle Member Debora Juarez (Blackfeet) took the helm of the firm's Tribal Practice Group as its Chair. Our growing team of Indian law and gaming lawyers, who have been representing tribal governments and businesses, Indian people and companies doing business in Indian Country since 2002, officially became a firm practice group effective the first of the New Year.
Gabe Galanda Again Named to Best Lawyers in America - Seattle Member Gabe Galanda (Round Valley) was for the second time selected by lawyers from throughout the country for inclusion in the 2009 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, in the specialty of Indian law. He was also recently elected by the Williams Kastner Membership to serve on the firm's Board of Directors.
Julio Carranza Named to Martinez Foundation Board - Seattle attorney Julio Carranza has been appointed a founding board member of The Martinez Foundation, which was established by Seattle Mariners icon Edgar Martinez and his wife Holli to fund scholarships for Latino students in Washington State and to support students of color seeking Master's degrees in teaching at local public universities. Julio was also elected President of The Mockingbird Society's Board of Directors, an advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of foster care children throughout Washington State.

13th Annual ABA National Institute on Gaming Law Minefield - Henderson/Las Vegas, NV (February 5-6, 2009). Seattle Member Gabe Galanda will co-chair this two-day conference and moderate a panel titled, "Tribal Gaming Deals: Business, Law & Regulation." The event will cover across-the-board contemporary issues in Native American and commercial gaming, ranging from advances in gaming technology to the effects of the recent elections on gaming matters. Jamestown S'Klallam Tribal Chairman and Washington Indian Gaming Association President Ron Allen will deliver the conference's keynote address.
Soothing Waters: Tribal Protection & Stewardship - University of Idaho School of Law, Moscow, ID (March 27, 2009). Sharon Haensly will present at the day-long 2009 Native American Law Conference, dubbed "Soothing Waters: Tribal Protection & Stewardship." The event will be held at the University of Idaho College of Law. Haensly, who has nearly two decades of experience representing Indian tribes, will commence her speech, "Sacred Sites Along Waterways," at 9 a.m.
