Tribal Practice Group Welcomes New Members — The Tribal Practice Group is pleased to introduce our newest members, Scott Henrie and John Fetters.
- Scott, a Member in the Seattle office, has almost thirty years of civil litigation experience. He concentrates his tribal practice in the areas of tribal probate litigation, having represented Indian families in several contentious matters before the BIA and its Probate Hearings Division. Scott is currently lead counsel in Round Valley Indian Tribes v. United States, a tribal trust mismanagement lawsuit pending in the Court of Federal Claims.
- John is an Associate in the Seattle office, whose practice focuses on commercial litigation as well as insurance and health care matters. He assists tribal governments and businesses in each of those arenas. John graduated from Seattle University School of Law, summa cum laude, where he served as Associate Editor of Seattle University Law Review.
Puget Sound Business Journal Features Indian Lawyers — Seattle Of Counsel Quanah Spencer (Yakama) and Member Gabe Galanda (Round Valley) were both featured in an article titled, "Stimulus grants for tribes are also stimulating legal work." In related news, we were pleased have helped the Blackfeet Nation secure authority to issue up to $22.6 million in tax-exempt tribal economic development bonds for tourism development, pursuant to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and IRS Notice 2009-51. Gabe was also recently featured by the Journal, as one of its "40 Under 40" honorees
Quanah Spencer & Anthony Broadman Elected to Northwest Tribal Bar Posts — On September 10th, at the 22nd Annual University of Washington Indian Law Symposium, Quanah Spencer was elected to serve both as the Treasurer of the Northwest Indian Bar Association, and Secretary-Treasurer of the Washington State Bar Association Indian Law Section. Seattle Associate Anthony Broadman was also elected to a three-year term as a Trustee for the Indian Law Section.
Gabe Galanda Named to Best Lawyers in America — Gabe Galanda was for the third time selected by lawyers from throughout the country for inclusion in the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, in the specialty of Native American Law.
Congratulations to Nammy Winners, the Rezhogs! — Williams Kastner client, the
Rezhogs, are the winners of a 2009 Native American Music Award (a "Nammy") in the "Best Rap/Hip Hop Recording" category for their song, "All Day, All Night." The award was presented to the group on Saturday night, October 3, at the 2009 Native American Music Awards in New York. The Rezhogs, a Native American rap group from Washington State, are comprised of members from the Yakama, Blackfeet and Puyallup Tribes.
