Markos Scheer Presents on Alaska Mariculture Initiative for Sitka Chamber of Commerce
Seattle, WA (April 19, 2017) – Williams Kastner member Markos Scheer presented on Alaska’s mariculture industry to the Sitka Chamber of Commerce.
“Scheer called mariculture ‘the low-hanging fruit’ of economic opportunity in Alaska. He said that worldwide the harvest of kelp was a $20-billion dollar industry, and showed a video of kelp farmers in Maine who were marketing kelp as ‘the new kale.’ He said that the United States supplied only 15-percent of the 4.4 million tons of oysters farmed each year.”
Scheer was appointed to the Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors in January 2017 for a two year term. The Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce links businesses with other leading Sitka area business members, officers, leaders and managers, and elected officials to enhance economic growth and development.
