An accomplished and respected trial and appellate attorney, Mr. Thomas has 33 years of experience in litigating cases in federal courts in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Minnesota, Oregon and Washington, in state courts in Washington, Pennsylvania and Oregon, argued cases before the Washington State Supreme Court and Divisions I, II and III of the Washington State Court of Appeals, handled cases in 15 Washington counties, and argued before the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Thomas has a broad litigation background in construction issues, commercial litigation, insurance defense and coverage issues, employment matters, non-competition and unfair trade practices, discrimination and harassment claims, professional malpractice claims, product liability issues, defending and pursuing class actions, contract interpretation and performance disputes, bad faith claims, probate/trust/estate litigation, real property disputes, and title insurance claims. He has assisted clients from individuals and small local firms, to large, well-known national and international corporations, including numerous Canadian clients, and Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Russian companies doing business in the United States. His construction law experience ranges from small projects, to shopping centers, to an interstate highway bridge, to the two tallest high-rise office towers in Seattle. A frequent seminar speaker, Mr. Thomas has served as a presenter on construction and employment issues at the Washington State Bar Association, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Associated General Contractors seminars. Education: Mr. Thomas received a B.A. with Distinction in History from the University of Washington in 1972, and his Juris Doctor from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis in 1976, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Urban Law Annual law review. Admitted to Bar:Washington Affiliations:Mr. Thomas’ professional activities and memberships include the American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, the Federal Bar Association, the Seattle-King County Bar Association, the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers’ Association, the Washington State Bar Association and the Associated General Contractors of Washington, of which he is an active member of the Legal Affairs Committee. Mr. Thomas has also been active with the Redmond North Little League, the Redmond Baseball Association, and the Boy Scouts of America. He has taken groups to the SeaBase Boy Scout High Adventure Camp in the Florida Keys, is active with the Redmond Baseball and Football Boosters, serves as a fraternity advisor at the University of Washington, and has served as a high school student government advisor. Mr. Thomas is also a long- time member of the Archaeological Institute of America, regularly supplementing local school ancient history classes with presentations on Egypt, the Bronze Age and Classical Greece, and Central America.
