Arley Harrel is a Member in the Seattle office. He chaired the firm’s Litigation Department from 2000 to 2006 and chaired its Business Litigation Practice Group from 2006 to 2008. He served on the firm’s Board of Directors from 1991 to 2003, and chaired the firm's Environmental Practice Group from 1992 to 1996. His practice emphasizes civil disputes, litigation, real estate and general business. He has handled a large number of commercial, real estate, eminent domain and product liability litigation matters. He was named by Seattle Magazine as one of Seattle’s Top Business Litigation Lawyers, 2003. Mr. Harrel has also been recognized by the Seattle Met magazine as a “Top Lawyer” in Commercial Litigation for 2010, a designation based upon Martindale-Hubbell's ranking of those practitioners in King County who have been judged by their peers to be “AV Preeminent”—the highest peer-review rating available.

Mr. Harrel has engaged in a civil litigation, real estate and commercial practice since 1973. His primary areas of civil litigation practice (in alphabetical order) include antitrust, banking, class action, commercial, condemnation/eminent domain, construction, employment, environmental, franchise, intellectual property, municipal, personal injury, products liability, professional liability, real estate, securities, trade regulation and transportation. His real estate and general business practice focuses on client counseling and advice.

Education:

Mr. Harrel graduated with a Juris Doctor degree, and was elected to the Order of the Coif, from the University of Washington School of Law and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural economics from Washington State University.

Affiliations:

Mr. Harrel is active in the American Bar Association. He has been appointed to a three-year term as a member of the Standing Committee on Paralegals for 2008 - 2011. He has been involved in many leadership roles with the ABA Section of Litigation and served a three year term on the Council, its governing body. He is currently Co-Chair of the Employment and Labor Relations Law Committee, 2009 - 2010, a member of the Task Force on the Independence of the Judiciary, 2007 - 2009, of the Litigation Section, and twice served as Co-Chair of the Products Liability Committee, most recently 2004 - 2005. He was a member of the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Council, 2002, and co-chaired the Section's 2000 Annual Meeting in Seattle. Mr. Harrel is a sustaining member of the Product Liability Advisory Council (PLAC) and serves on the Board of Advisors for BNA's Product Safety and Liability Reporter. He is currently a board member of the University of Washington School of Law's Alumni Association and served as its President.
